Kaveh Solhekol shares West Ham United injury news on Gianluca Scamacca

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol believes West Ham United may have been forced into making a late transfer move for Danny Ings because of the injury to Gianluca Scamacca.

Injury Expert Ben Dinnery has highlighted in his most recent West Ham United injuries update that there is currently no return date for Scamacca.

Solhekol confessed that he’s been told that Scamacca will be out for a month, despite David Moyes’ claims that the player will only be on the sidelines for a short while.

“I don’t think West Ham were planning on spending so much money this month. They spent big money last summer – £160m – so I think they’ve been forced to make a move in the market because they’ve been scoring so few goals and also because Gianluca Scamacca is out injured,” said Solhekol to Sky Sports. “David Moyes says he expects the player to be out for a short while – I’ve been told that he could be out for a month.

“West Ham were reluctant to spend money this month but because of the position they’re in, they’re not creating chances or scoring goals so they felt they had to do something.”

Time will tell.

Despite glimpses of brilliance from Scamacca, he has had a fairly quiet season so far, one that has been marred by the injuries spoken about above.

Ings wouldn’t have been the name on every fan’s lips to bring instant success back to the Hammers but if the Italian’s injury is lengthy, then it may be the right call.

After all, the Englishman is Premier League proven and has shown in recent years that he can bag numerous goals for his teams if playing in a system that suits his talents.

There is no denying that Ings will have to hit the ground running for Moyes and the fact he has been cleared to play Everton on 21 January is a massive boost for the Irons.

A debut outing against the equally shaky Everton may be the perfect recipe for Ings to feast and get his West Ham scoring campaign off to a flyer.
