West Ham United: Journalist shares what Bristol City manager Liam Manning did to console ‘gutted’ Lucas Paqueta

Roshane Thomas has revealed that Liam Manning embraced Lucas Paqueta when he was forced off the field for West Ham in the FA Cup clash against Bristol City on Sunday (7 January).

The Athletic journalist tweeted on Sunday that it was “bad news” for the Hammers after the Brazilian international had to be replaced by Divin Mubama on 14 minutes after pulling up with a knee injury.

He added that it was nice of the Robins’ boss to embrace the 26-year-old midfielder, who looked “gutted” as he left the field in the early stages of the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

Classy

It was a classy move from Manning to console Paqueta as he was clearly disappointed to have picked up an injury in the FA Cup fixture.

Although the Bristol City manager will have been relieved to not be facing the midfielder anymore after he had just set up Jarrod Bowen for the opening goal, no one likes to see a player get injured.

It was perhaps too big of a risk for David Moyes to start the Brazilian after he missed the 0-0 draw against Brighton through injury on 2 January.

West Ham

The Irons completely lost their rhythm and didn’t look quite as much of a threat going forward in his absence as they lacked the creativity to kill the game off and secure their place in the next round.

The Hammers boss will now be hoping the issue isn’t too bad and that Paqueta will be available for the replay against the Championship side in just over a week.
