West Ham United: Journalist shares new David Moyes sack verdict at London Stadium

Dean Jones would be “surprised” if West Ham were to offer David Moyes a new two-year contract to remain at the club.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Friday (16 February), the former Eurosport journalist said he finds it “hard to believe” the Hammers would hand the Scotsman the deal they previously had in mind up until 2026 due to the “fan unrest” at the London Stadium.

It comes after the Irons were embarrassed by Arsenal on their home turf, with their London rivals claiming a 6-0 victory on 11 February.

“You could probably still describe Moyes’ future as a fluid situation because David Sullivan has not made a full decision,” said Jones.

“But given the fan unrest about how uneasy they would feel about giving Moyes a new contract, I would be surprised if they decided to commit to him for another couple of years.

“The deal they had in mind would take him to the World Cup in 2026. Given the feeling around the club, I find it hard to believe they would do that.”

David Moyes is under pressure at West Ham

There has been pressure on Moyes at West Ham for quite a while now, but the humiliating defeat to Arsenal has done him no favours whatsoever.

It’s no secret that technical director Tim Steidten had been drawing up a shortlist of potential candidates in case the Hammers decide to part ways with the Scotsman.

But it had looked as though he was on the verge of signing a new deal recently before a poor run of results in the past few weeks has put his future in the spotlight again.

David Moyes has largely has a successful second spell in charge of West Ham United.

It was the way that the Irons lost to the Gunners that was the most concerning aspect as the players looked like they didn’t really care and they weren’t playing for the manager.

He will know that they simply have to respond against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (17 February) as we have to get our season back on track at the City Ground.
