West Ham United: Journalist makes new David Moyes prediction as ‘lucky’ verdict shared

West Ham United manager David Moyes will “quite rightly” believe that his club can go far in the Europa League this season.

That is according to journalist Alex Keble, who believes the Hammers have got “lucky” with their upcoming fixture list.

The East London club are into the last 16 of the Europa League, having topped their group with five wins and one loss.

“West Ham have form in Europe,” Keble wrote for the official Premier League website. “They won last season’s Europa Conference League, juggling the 15 extra matches by prioritising Europe as David Moyes’s side finished with just 40 Premier League points.

“Their domestic record after Conference League contests read: five wins, three draws and five defeats. This season it’s a similar story, with West Ham collecting eight points from the six matches that followed their Europa League group matches.

“Moyes will believe, quite rightly, that West Ham can go far in Europe’s second tier, and therefore he will be pleased that their last-16 tie sits either side of a home match against Burnley.”

West Ham approaching key period

There are very few periods of the season that are not key, but next month could really make or break the Hammers, and indeed decide Moyes’ future in East London.

The man in the dugout will undoubtedly go down in the club’s history after guiding them to Europa Conference League success last time out.

But as proven time and again, football fans can be very fickle, with the boss seemingly under pressure at the London Stadium, particularly after a 6-0 thrashing by Arsenal.

But the Hammers had many poor domestic moments last season, with their Premier League issues forgotten about thanks to their European success.

This time around they are going much better in the Premier League, even with that heavy defeat to the Gunners, sitting in eighth place.

And their upcoming fixture list should provide good reading for the London Stadium faithful, with struggling Everton and Burnley coming up in and around the time they will play their two Europa League last-16 legs.
