West Ham United: Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist share David Moyes sack verdict on talkSPORT

West Ham United will “build a statue” of David Moyes if the Scotsman manages to win the Europa League this season, according to Jeff Stelling.

The Hammers claimed all three points at Goodison Park on Saturday (2 March) with a 3-1 win over Everton thanks to late goals from Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez to climb to seventh in the Premier League table.

While a large portion of the Irons’ fanbase remains unhappy with Moyes’ management, both Stelling and Ally McCoist have admitted that they think the West Ham boss deserves more credit for his work at the London Stadium.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (4 March, 9:50) he said: “If they win the Europa League, they’ll build a statue [of Moyes] won’t they? You’re seventh in the table, you’re at home to Burnley next weekend.

“You’ve got Freiburg who have only won once this year in the Bundesliga in the Europa League. You lot are a hard lot to please. I think West Ham fans genuinely speaking, they’re entrenched in their opinions and they’re not going to change their mind come what may.

“As far as David Moyes is concerned all he can do is keep winning games and I’m sure he listens to them all with a rye smile on his face.”

McCoist quickly agreed: “They’re certainly a far better team and easier on the eye when Lucas Paqueta is in the team.”

Will West Ham United sack David Moyes at the London Stadium?

Moyes has always been a divisive figure at the London Stadium throughout both of his spells with the Hammers, but it was only a matter of weeks ago that the supporters had seemingly run out of patience with the Scotsman.

However, with impressive wins over both Brentford and Everton, some supporters have been pulled back onside by the attacking displays that have shown a different dimension to Moyes’ set-up.

The Irons boss has confirmed that he has been offered a new deal at the London Stadium, but he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season.

That leaves Moyes with a matter of months to win back the entirety of the West Ham fanbase. If he can maintain this recent form, more fans will begin to side with McCoist and Stelling’s view.
