West Ham United: Jarrod Bowen shares new David Moyes admission amid Irons sack speculation

West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has admitted he can’t see why supporters would want David Moyes to be sacked at the London Stadium, ahead of the Irons’ clash with Freiburg.

The England international has been in fine form for the Hammers this season, scoring 14 goals and laying on three assists in 27 Premier League matches, to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of Euro 2024.

Despite Bowen’s good displays, the Irons have been poor in 2024 so far, with some fans suggesting Moyes should be sacked, but the 27-year-old insists the Scotsman deserves more credit for his work at the London Stadium.

As quoted by The Evening Standard (14 March) he said: “I can only speak for when I’ve been here. When I arrived, we were in a relegation battle. We stayed up and in the following two years, we finished sixth and seventh.

“Okay, last year we finished poorly in the Premier League, but we won a European trophy, so no one will remember the league position. This year, we’re in the mix for European places again and a win away from a European quarter-final.

“You can’t please everyone — and if you try, you’ll be trying for a very long time. But I think what we’ve achieved in the four years, you cannot argue with it. I don’t see how anyone can see it any differently.”

Will West Ham United sack David Moyes at the end of the season?

The pressure has been mounting on Moyes in recent weeks, with each passing game seeming to create more division amongst the fanbase as they remain unconvinced by his defensive first brand of football in East London.

A new contract is on the table and behind-the-scenes appointments have hinted that the 60-year-old will more than likely sign on the dotted line, but sources around the London Stadium have insisted no decision has been made yet.

David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

Whether or not Moyes will extend his stay with the Irons remains to be seen, but it is clear from both Bowen and Tomas Soucek’s recent comments that the playing squad remain incredibly united behind Moyes.

Hopefully, West Ham will be able to get back to winning ways against Freiburg in the Europa League on Thursday (14 March) otherwise the fanbase could once again turn against Moyes.
