West Ham United: Jamie Carragher shares new David Moyes verdict amid exit talk

Jamie Carragher has suggested West Ham should stick with David Moyes as he does not see any other manager taking the club beyond where they are at the moment.

The Liverpool legend insisted that, with the Hammers comfortably in the top half of the Premier League and competing in the Europa League, Moyes remains the man for the job.

He did, however, suggest the boss could walk away when his contract runs out at the end of the current season to protect his legacy at the club rather than risking disappointment next season.

Speaking on The Overlap [2 April], Carragher shared: “I think stick because I don’t see any other manager coming in and getting you higher in the table or doing better in Europe.

“But actually from David Moyes’ point of view, it might actually be better for him not to stay there, because next season could be like last season where you finish 12th, 14th or whatever, and he probably would go off the back of that.

“I think for David Moyes, if he can get to another semi-final and finish 7th or 8th, that would be a great way to go out. I wouldn’t want to see him get criticised next season on the back of the job he’s done.”

Jamie Carragher tells David Moyes to leave West Ham

The suggestion that Moyes could leave the London Stadium this year to protect his reputation within the club and in football as a whole could be the best outcome for all parties after the fans have made their voices heard this season.

Carragher’s comments come shortly after Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth insisted that Moyes will make the final decision about whether he stays or leaves in the summer, as he suggested that a Europa League challenge could push him to stay.

Darren Bent, meanwhile, tipped Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna to take over from Moyes should he decide to leave the London Stadium, with the Tractor Boys currently challenging for promotion from the Championship.

The inconsistency of the Hammers’ performances and results have led to questions surrounding the boss’ future, and with the decision in his hands, it remains a possibility he could walk away at the end of the current season.
