West Ham United: International media hail ‘outstanding’ Thomas Soucek as Czechia win v Norway
West Ham ace Thomas Soucek picked up an assist despite an overall “embarrassing” performance as Czechia beat Norway 2-1, as described by Czech news outlet idnes.
Soucek was named alongside Patrick Schick as the “most outstanding” player for the national team, with his assist handing his country the equaliser before a late goal from Antonin Barak won them the game.
It is said the lineup at times looked “scattered”, with Soucek having to fill in at right-back at one point due to a lack of substitutions made by the manager.

The newspaper was heavily critical of the performance as Czechia spent large parts of the game defending despite the ultimate scoreline – a tale that will sound all-too-familiar to West Ham fans given the speculation over David Moyes’ future.
West Ham’s style of play at the London Stadium has landed the boss plenty of criticism despite positive results both domestically and in Europe, and their views of the game seem to be shared by those in Soucek’s home country.
Nevertheless, the midfielder’s performance will be one positive to note from the game, with his assist coming from a charge into the box, beating the defender, before his cross into the six-yard box was headed home.
The midfielder has received criticism at times this season but remains a favourite under Moyes’ guidance given his physical prowess in midfield and going forward, with his performance in recent weeks justifying his selection.
