West Ham United interested in Djed Spence, Tottenham want loan exit
West Ham United are interested in signing Tottenham right wing-back Djed Spence as the Spurs look to send the 22-year-old out on loan, according to 90min.
90min suggest (24 January) that Spurs remain in talks with Sporting CP over wing-back Pedro Porro and that they’re now prepared to let Spence depart to get more game time.
It’s understood the Hammers, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Southampton are all interested in a move for the wing-back, along with Championship high-flyers Burnley.
Spence would certainly be an interesting addition if he did move to the London Stadium – but this is one that looks somewhat unlikely. Spurs would be eager for the wing-back to feature regularly and considering the Hammers’ current league position, David Moyes may well be eager to sign a more experienced player in that position.
Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth suggested (1 January) Vladimir Coufal’s future was one to watch at the start of January and if something dramatic changes in the final week of the window, a move for Spence could potentially make sense.
It appears Moyes is set to keep his job at the London Stadium for the foreseeable future and it’s now up to the board to ensure they back the Scot over the next couple of days. Another forward could potentially be an option, although a central defender will probably be the top priority for the West Ham boss as the window reaches its conclusion.
Regardless of what business gets done in the next week, it’s certainly time for a lot of the Hammers’ players to step up and perform to the levels we know they can in the second half of the campaign.
