West Ham United in Wednesday talks to get rid of Thilo Kehrer, potentially for good – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham are in talks with AS Monaco to finalise the deal for Thilo Kehrer in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Sky Sports Italy journalist reported that talks were ongoing on Wednesday, 3 January, with a permanent exit on the cards for the Germany international eventually.

As of now, it’s a loan with an option to buy but it could turn into an obligation based on certain factors.

Via Twitter, Romano wrote, “AS Monaco and West Ham are in contact also today to get Thilo Kehrer deal done.

“It will be loan move with buy option clause that could become mandatory based on sporting targets.”

Good riddance

The Hammers’ decision to offload Kehrer through a loan deal with AS Monaco appears to be a pragmatic move for the club.

The German’s limited playing time at the club this season, managing only 19 minutes in the Premier League, has diminished his market value, making it challenging for the club to secure a substantial transfer fee.

The failure to finalise a deal with any club for a permanent sale indicates a struggle to find a permanent suitor, underlining Kehrer’s underwhelming impact and questionable investment for the Hammers.

West Ham

The inclusion of a buy option clause in the deal suggests West Ham may still recoup some value based on sporting targets, offering a potential upside to an otherwise disappointing transfer.

This strategic move enables the club to reassess Kehrer’s future at the end of the season, avoiding a long-term commitment to a player who has not featured prominently but it’s fair to assume he’s played his last game for the Hammers.
