West Ham United ‘determined’ in hunt as Tammy Abraham wanted back in Premier League, Chelsea and Aston Villa also linked

West Ham are one of the teams who are “vigilant and determined to obtain new information” on bringing Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian outlet reported via their website on 30 October that they have received information the Roma striker still has a number of admirers in the English top flight, with Aston Villa, Fulham and Brentford also in the hunt.

Chelsea, who sold the England international to the Serie A side for £34million just over two years ago [Sky Sports], have been named as a possibility as well.

Abraham, 26, hasn’t featured at all yet this season as he continues his recovery from the ACL tear he suffered at the tail end of last season, but with Jose Mourinho having brought in another Chelsea forward in Romelu Lukaku on loan Roma’s plan is to sell the former in January, although the injury is said to have affected the asking price.

Position of need

West Ham increasingly look like the failure to land a striker in the final hours of the summer transfer window is hurting them as Michail Antonio’s strong early-season form has tailed off.

Mohammed Kudus is an option to play as the central forward but it isn’t his natural position, so currently Jarrod Bowen is the Irons’ main goal threat.

Danny Ings’ arrival at the club last January has proven to be even less successful than the signing of Gianluca Scamacca the summer before, albeit for a lot less money.

So a striker in the winter window once more seems like a very real possibility, but the club are going to need to find a way to make the next one a lot more suitable than the last few that have arrived at the London Stadium.

Abraham has plenty of Premier League experience and has shown he can score in this league, but despite a solid record he has never been truly prolific.

And coming off a serious injury there will be doubts over how quickly he can find his way back to top form, so any more from the Hammers will surely depend on how much the price has come down.

At his best he would surely be a valuable addition but if David Moyes, if he is still in charge, is looking for someone to make an instant impact midseason the former Chelsea product might be a risk.

In other West Ham news, Moyes has been tipped for the exit after a “really telling sign” gave it away.
