West Ham United in race to sign ‘fantastic’ Paul Onuachu in £17.6m deal

West Ham United are back in the race to sign Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu from KRC Genk in Belgium, according to Jeunes Footeux.

The six-foot-seven striker is also courted by Premier League rivals Manchester United, Everton and Aston Villa as many clubs look to sign a prolific forward in January.

So far this season, Onuachu has scored 13 goals in 15 matches in the Belgian league and a deal to sign him could cost as little as £17.6million.

Genk may well ask for up to £22million for the giant attacker as he is an integral part of their side and someone who his teammate, Rasmus Carstensen, hugely admires.

“A huge striker who also makes home runs, it’s absolutely fantastic to watch,” he said to Bold. “Quick feet, into the lane, the long corner. Paul is just really good at playing football.”

Game-changer

Gianluca Scamacca may be one of the tallest players at West Ham right now but he would be dwarfed by Onuachu who has goals in the biggest European competitions to his name already in his career.

At 28 years of age, he might not be a long-term solution to David Moyes’ problems at the London Stadium but he is so tall and commanding that he could be a serious problem for defenders in the Premier League.

He doesn’t even have to start every game as bringing on such a tall player late in a game is the perfect recipe whether you are chasing a goal or trying to hold on to what you have.

If West Ham don’t even make an approach for Onuachu in January and he goes to another Premier League side, they will quickly come back to regret it because his presence is sure to inflict damage on teams if he gets the service.
