West Ham United in for ‘real treat’ after new Niclas Fullkrug developments
West Ham United are in for a “real treat” after Niclas Fullkrug made the move to the London Stadium, according to Chris Sutton.
The German international is one of eight summer additions made to Julen Lopetegui’s squad ahead of the start of the new season, having made the move to East London from Borussia Dortmund.
Lopetegui’s Irons get their Premier League campaign underway against Aston Villa on Saturday (17 August) and Sutton believes the signing of the striker will prove to be an “excellent piece of business”.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (15 August, 33:55) he said: “The one that I really like is Niclas Fullkrug, Dortmund to West Ham.
“I saw him in the Euros, saw him in the Champions League final where he did miss a couple of opportunities but I think West Ham fans will love him.
“When people say he’s a throwback, an old-fashioned number nine, I get all that and he has that physicality and he can play with his back to goal, but also his movement I think is very underrated.
“He’s not the quickest player, but he’s a player who I think is committed, and excellent at scoring from crossed balls and over the years he’s developed superbly.
“I think West Ham fans will be in for a real treat with him, of course, he’s going to rely on services but I think that’s an excellent piece of business from West Ham.
“I would be very excited.”
Are West Ham close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?
West Ham supporters have every reason to be excited heading into the new Premier League season as the Irons’ business has been excellent in Lopetegui’s first window in charge.
Fullkrug may be Sutton’s favourite arrival at the London Stadium, but the additions of Crysencio Summerville, Guido Rodriguez, Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman are all as equally likely to get supporters out of their seats.

Lopetegui now has a squad at his disposal capable of challenging for the European places once again and it is down to him to get a tune out of the players and find a system that gets the best out of every new addition.
Fans will want to see a good performance against Aston Villa given the money spent over the last few months, but with so much change, they may have to just give their new manager a little bit of time to settle in.
