West Ham United in contact with Paris Saint-Germain to iron out final details for Alphonse Areola – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain to iron out the final details to sign Alphonse Areola, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable journalist shared that the Irons are finally closing in on the permanent transfer after the Frenchman spent last season on loan at the London Stadium.

It is shared that Areola has already verbally agreed to his contract and personal terms on Thursday [22 June] and will complete his move next week.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano shared the final details being ironed out before the official announcement can be made by both clubs.

“West Ham are closing on Alphonse Areola deal, after verbal agreement on personal terms as reported last Thursday – it’s all set to complete the deal next week,” he wrote. “Gonna be a permanent transfer.

“Contacts between clubs on final details are ongoing.”

Finally.

This has taken far too long to sort out.

West Ham United had the permanent option to trigger in the loan move, so why it has taken so long to iron out all of the details is beyond us.

The main thing that needs celebrating is that it looks to be done now, and it should be announced in the next 72 hours if everything goes to play, as shared by Claret and Hugh.

David Moyes will be delighted to have two quality keepers at his disposal that are his, with Lukasz Fabianski also to stay on at the London Stadium next season and maybe even beyond.

Areola will be the long-term number one though and will likely take over from the Polish international at the London Stadium sooner rather than later.

All eyes will quickly move on to other areas of the squad to strengthen once this is announced, with it being seen as a formality since the season ended back in May.

Here we go, as Romano would say.
