West Ham United hunt Leeds United sensation Willy Gnonto amid £30m development

West Ham United want to sign Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto as interest in the Italian heats up, according to The Mirror.

It’s believed a host of Premier League clubs are chasing the 19-year-old winger, who was one of the Whites’ standout performers last season (The Mirror, 24 June).

Crystal Palace, Everton and Brighton are all showing interest along with the Hammers. Gnonto is understood to be valued at around £30million.

Coup

The capture of Gnonto would be a huge coup for David Moyes and the board. The 19-year-old was arguably Leeds’ best player last season in what was his first full season in the Premier League.

With Leeds now in the Championship, the prospect of a cut-price move could certainly become a reality for the Hammers. However, they will have to act fast if they want to land a move for the Italian. With Brighton, Palace and Everton interested, he is highly likely to be on the move.

West Ham

The £30million price tag shouldn’t put the board off. He’s a player who could be looked at as a long-term project. He could develop into a big asset at the London Stadium. Much like Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen have done since moving to the club.

Furthermore, another winger should certainly be on the agenda for Moyes. Apart from the centre of midfield, it’s the one area the West Ham boss desperately needs to strengthen, with options currently few and far between.

Let’s hope a move for Gnonto does progress over the coming weeks and months – he would be a superb acquisition if they can get a deal over the line.
