West Ham United: ‘Huge’ David Moyes update emerges at London Stadium
David Moyes is now under “huge” pressure at West Ham after the heavy 6-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday 11 February, according to Simon Stone.
Mikel Arteta’s men ruthlessly dismantled the Hammers, their biggest home Premier League defeat and joint-heaviest of all time, along with an 8-2 loss against Blackburn in 1963-64.
West Ham are now without a win in seven games since their 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 28 December, heaping further pressure on Moyes.
And BBC Sport journalist Stone shared (12 February) that recent results including the heavy defeats to Fulham, Arsenal and the FA Cup elimination to Bristol City have somewhat brought uncertainty around Moyes’ contract at London Stadium and he is now under huge pressure from a potential sack.
He wrote: “Two top-seven finishes, a Europa League semi-final and, memorably, a Europa Conference League triumph in Prague last June will ensure Moyes’ legacy will be a positive one, no matter what is happening in the here and now.
“Speaking after the 6-0 home loss to Arsenal, Moyes did not sound like a man who was concerned about getting the sack. After all, talks over a new contract seemed to be progressing towards a positive conclusion and it is less than two months since West Ham were beating Manchester United at home and Arsenal away either side of Christmas.
“But heavy defeats in the reverse fixtures, following on from an FA Cup elimination at Championship outfit Bristol City, with other big losses at Fulham and Liverpool fresh in the mind, certainly mean Moyes is under huge pressure.”
Clarity is desperately needed at London Stadium
After the transfer window closed on 1 February, Moyes insisted they would return to contract negotiations, with those talks already “well down the line” [The Standard, 2 February].
This was then followed up by an update from Sean Whetstone claiming that Moyes would “100%” sign a new deal to remain beyond this season.
However, there’s been no update regarding all that for a long while which certainly means David Sullivan is still pondering over whether Moyes is the long-term solution in East London.
The Irons chairman was spotted in the stands at the London Stadium for the 6-0 defeat, with talkSPORT host Jim White taking to X on Sunday (11 February) sharing images of fans during the heavy loss, with the pressure really mounting on the future of Moyes.
There also seems to be friction between Sullivan and Moyes after the January transfer debacle. Failing to secure replacements for Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma when there is so much of the campaign to go really is strange.

Why was there no replacement sorted out? Was it down to money or FFP? Or was it simply because Sullivan, Tim Steidten and Moyes were unable to agree on targets?
Fans desperately need clarity and so much uncertainty at the club right now can only mean one thing: the manager is indeed under massive pressure.
