West Ham United hold talks to sign Amiens defender Formose Mendy

West Ham are closely monitoring the situation of Amiens defender Formose Mendy, according to a report from The Atheltic.

The Senegal defender was part of the squad for the World Cup in Qatar but he didn’t get to play a game. The 22-year-old is on the club’s radar and he is considered an option.

The Hammers have held exploratory conversations to sign the defender who is considered a “key player” in Amien’s bid to win promotion back to Ligue 1.

The report shares that West Ham have no immediate plans to advance any move but if they could look to sign him if Craig Dawson departs.

French club Lens have made a bid in the region of £7 million but Amiens are aiming higher.

It will be interesting to see how the transfer window unfolds for West Ham this month.

The club spent heavily in the summer, and David Moyes was backed properly.

Unless one or two players leave and there are major injuries, the club is unlikely to add any more players this month.

Sky Sports reported on 10 January that Wolves are looking to sign Dawson who has only six months left on his current deal.

The 32-year-old defender was targeted by Wolves during the summer transfer window as well but they had failed to lure him to Molineux at that time.

Dawson wants to stay close to his family and he has a house in the Midlands as well. If he leaves, the Hammers could turn their attention towards Wendy.

West Ham are not sure about their transfer strategy this month as doubts remain over the future of Moyes. The Hammers have fared miserably this season, and Moyes could be sacked if the results do not improve.
