West Ham United hit turning point in relegation scrap as Danny Ings thrives

West Ham United may have hit a “turning point” in their relegation scrap with Danny Ings proving to be an equally critical juncture, according to the Daily Mail.

Ings netted twice after being given the nod to start by Moyes in a 4-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon at the London Stadium.

And the forward could prove to be the Hammers saving grace this season as they look to beat the dreaded drop to the Championship.

“So just as this result could be a turning point in West Ham’s fight for survival, Ings’ arrival might prove an equally critical juncture,” as quoted by the Daily Mail. (26 February)

Ings certainly looks to be that guy for West Ham United and he even has the statistics to back up his goals and importance for David Moyes’ side.

West Ham

Game changer.

Ings gave a short demonstration against Forest of why West Ham United forked out £15m for his services in the January transfer window.

By the time the forward came off six minutes from time, his expected goals (xG) stood at 1.74, which is more than every other West Ham forward has averaged all season, combined.

The former Aston Villa and Southampton striker also had double the number of touches in the opposition box (nine), than any other attacker has managed in 2022/2023.

When fit and firing Ings can be an absolute menace to Premier League defences and his small batch of silky stats from the Forest fixture prove this.

Moyes simply has to start the English striker moving forward, even if Gianluca Scamacca returns to full fitness sooner, rather than later.

The 30-year-old can be the game changer Moyes needs and craves to save the Hammers from relegation embarrassment and his acquisition is starting to look like a shrewd bit of business.
