West Ham United ‘highest source’ shares update on David Moyes contract news

A source close to West Ham United has refused to confirm that David Moyes is set to be offered a new two-and-a-half-year deal, according to Claret & Hugh.

The outlet reported on its website on Saturday (30 December) that their “highest source” at the London Stadium hasn’t suggested that reports surrounding the Scotsman’s long-term future in East London are correct.

Reports emerged from Sun journalist Jack Rosser that the West Ham manager was set to sign a new deal with the Hammers that would see him remain in charge until the summer of 2026, despite plenty of speculation surrounding his future.

Wait and see

While the suggestion from reporters in recent days has been that Moyes’ future at the London Stadium was all but tied up, the noise coming from inside the West Ham camp seems to be that nothing has been agreed as of yet.

The Hammers boss has always insisted that negotiations would begin in the new year and while the Hammers’ recent excellent domestic form may have seen those talks pulled forward, it seems unlikely that the Irons would rush into any new deal.

Most supporters would be in agreement that Moyes deserves a new deal after improving the Irons year after year throughout his second spell in East London. The recent upturn in form is the icing on the cake and now the Hammers have to secure his future.

Whether or not this is the two-year deal that has been reported by various outlets in recent days remains to be seen, but it now feels inevitable that Moyes will extend his stay with West Ham.

That decision may well split some of the Irons’ fanbase, but in the long run, it seems the most measured and sensible call for all parties.
