West Ham have fresh bid rejected for defender as PL rivals launch enquiry – reports
West Ham United are set to be rivalled by Leicester City for the signature of Burnley defender James Tarkowski, according to the Evening Standard.
The newspaper has reported on their website that the Foxes have made a fresh enquiry for the 27-year-old after having a £40million offer rejected last season.
Tarkowski has expressed his desire to leave Turf Moor, although he would like the chance to play European football – something more likely at the King Power Stadium.
This is not the news that the Irons wanted to hear.
West Ham and David Moyes have seen a number of offers rejected by their Premier League rivals, with the latest of those totalling £31million according to Sky Sports.
That bid was only £25million upfront, and Burnley are said to want £30million straight before any add-ons before considering selling their main defender.
Brentford are due 27.5% of any figure received for Tarkowski, meaning that Burnley will continue to hold out for as much as they can get.
There will become a time where enough is enough for the Irons.
Moyes would be left raging if he wasn’t able to strengthen his defence before the window slams shut at the beginning of October.
West Ham have the money from the sale of Grady Diangana, but they seem reluctant to go out and splash the cash to get their man – something Leicester won’t be afraid to do.
The defeat against Newcastle highlighted familiar defensive problems, with Issa Diop once again exploited far too many times against the likes of Andy Carroll and Callum Wilson.
Tarkowski would add much-needed stability, and there will come a time where the Irons just need to bite the bullet and cough up the cash.
