West Ham United have already made approach to hire former Champions League goalscorer Abel Ferreira

West Ham United contacted Abel Ferreira as a potential replacement for David Moyes earlier this year, according to UOL Esporte.

Burno Andrade has reported that in January 2024 the Hammers contacted the Palmerias manager. The move was refused by the club as the Portuguese had just signed a new contract until December 2025.

The Brazilian outlet has said that Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui are also being touted with a move to the London Stadium.

There may be a struggle to get the coach out of Serie A to the Premier League as he has already turned down a “recent multimillion pound” offer from Al-Sadd of Qatar.

Should West Ham move for Abel Ferreira?

It is safe to say that West Ham fans are at their wits end with Moyes and want a change of style in the London Stadium dugout.

Ferreira – who once scored against Man United in the Champions League as a Sporting CP player – would certainly bring a new tactical approach which has seen him be successful since being appointed by Palmerias.

He took over in October 2020 and guided his new side to their second-ever Copa Libertadores title. He followed this up with a consecutive title the season after.

The Portuguese opts for a 3-4-3 formation which allows his midfielders to form a box midfield behind a striker while being defensively sound out of possession.

The wing backs in this set-up are used to form overloads down the flanks which cause problems for opposition defences.

This would be a change of tact for the Hammers but may spark a transfer window of ins and outs for Ferreira to play how he wants to.

A move may pose a risk given his lack of European football experience but could be exciting nonetheless.
