West Ham United have 25% chance of signing Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta

West Ham United have a 25% chance of signing Lyon’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta as talks continue for the 24-year-old according to The Telegraph.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth revealed (via his personal Twitter account, 24 August) that West Ham have tabled a £33.7million bid for the Lyon midfielder.

However, The Telegraph has since reported on Wednesday 24 August, that talks are not at an advanced stage and that there is only a 25 per cent chance of the Brazilian signing for the Hammers at present.

It’s also understood that a move for the Brazilian would see the club hierarchy heavily back David Moyes as the Scot looks to make Paqueta his eighth summer addition.

Big talent

This would be another marquee signing by Moyes with Paqueta a full Brazilian international who is coming into the prime of his career.

He has seven goals in 33 appearances from midfield for a star-studded Brazilian national side and scored eleven times for Lyon in the 2021/22 season.

The West Ham boss has been targeting midfield reinforcements over the last couple of weeks, with Tomas Soucek’s early season form a real concern for the Scot.

Furthermore, considering the Hammers haven’t scored a Premier League goal as of yet, adding some ammunition from the middle of the pack could well kickstart his squad into life on the goalscoring front.

West Ham

It’s hard to gauge the chances of this deal coming off with West Ham constantly testing the water with a number of players over the course of this summer.

Hans Vanaken is another player the club are interested and with that in mind, it seems unlikely for both Vanaken and Paqueta to sign considering they’re both attacking midfielders.

There should be hope among West Ham fans, that at least one of them should sign in the coming weeks.
