Soucek ‘unhappy with what Potter’s done’ as new West Ham United doubt raised

Graham Potter has endured an underwhelming start to life in the West Ham United dugout, clinching just three wins in 14 matches.

Potter had hoped to turn matters around at West Ham after replacing former boss Julen Lopetegui in January.

The Hammers sit 17th in the Premier League with only five games remaining, and have failed to win since their 2-0 triumph over relegated Leicester on 27 February.

Potter’s men were left particularly disappointed by their 1-1 draw with Southampton last time out, while the Saints are set to return to the Championship after earning just 11 points this term.

Soucek left unhappy with recent game time under Potter

Soucek has established himself as a firm fan favourite at West Ham since joining from Slavia Prague in 2020.

However, according to The Times (25 April), the midfielder is unhappy that he has not started three of the Hammers’ last four games, while there are doubts surrounding his energy levels.

Soucek is West Ham’s second top scorer in the Premier League this season, while only talisman Jarrod Bowen has managed more goals for Potter’s men in the top flight.

West Ham would be gutted to lose Soucek

Soucek has been a top servant for the London Stadium side since his arrival back in 2020, and scored 10 goals for the Hammers across all competitions just last season.

Soucek remains a top asset for West Ham

He is an all-action midfielder who is equally capable of causing problems in the final third and protecting his own back four, including against elite opponents.

Soucek heavily contributed to West Ham’s Conference League triumph in 2023, making 11 appearances in the competition, scoring one goal and creating one assist.

However, Potter’s recent decision to drop the Czechia international from his starting 11 could prompt the 30-year-old to depart the London Stadium this summer.

While Potter will be keen to build his own Hammers squad this summer, West Ham would likely become a weaker side without Soucek’s services.

The 30-year-old has proven his attacking quality yet again this season, notching seven goals and one assist in 30 Premier League outings.
