West Ham United: Glen Johnson fires brutal jibe at Michail Antonio over dip in form

Glen Johnson has fired a brutal “not good enough” jibe at West Ham United forward Michail Antonio this week.

Antonio’s form has certainly dipped this season with the once formidable forward being dropped in and out of David Moyes’ starting XI.

Johnson confessed that even when the striker is in good form he still isn’t a “natural goalscorer” admitting that he has to give more when his team are struggling.

“Michail Antonio always works hard but his form has not been great for some time now,” Johnson told OLBG as quoted by Football London. (24 February)

“The problem with a player like Antonio, even when his form is good, he’s still not a natural goalscorer and won’t give you loads of goals.

“When he’s out of form, he can run around and draw some fouls, but that’s not good enough in the Premier League. For a struggling team, you have to give more.”

West Ham

Brutal.

Antonio has been a great servant to the Hammers over the years and a wreaking ball to Premier League defences on numerous occasions.

All forward’s go through dips in form and for Johnson to publically slate Antonio for doing so just seems a bit off, he doesn’t deserve that kind of criticism.

Granted his form has been way off this campaign but the majority of the Hammers team has also underperformed throughout the fixtures so far.

The bulky striker has become an isolated figure up top at the London Stadium and a lot of this is down to David Moyes’ stale and weak tactics.

Nevertheless, many would argue that there is still a lot left in the tank for Antonio and he can undoubtedly find some form again in the Claret and Blue shirt.

So cut him some slack Glen, every Irons fan is rooting for an Antonio renaissance in the latter part of this Premier League season.
