West Ham United gem Tyron Akpata heads to QPR as official announcement made
West Ham academy graduate Tyron Akpata looks to be on trial at Queens Park Rangers after emerging in their development squad in the London Senior Cup on Thursday.
The QPR academy announced on their X account (8 February) that Akpata will feature for the youth team as they take on Dartford in the London Senior Cup on Thursday afternoon.
Having joined West Ham United as an U15s player, Tyron Akpata put pen to paper on a Scholarship deal with the Academy of Football in June 2022 and featured 21 times for the side Kevin Keen’s under-18s.
Now it seems he’s sought pastures new with a move to QPR as he gears up for a trial with their development squad.
Worrying West Ham academy trend continues
It seems the exit trend at the glorious West Ham academy is continuing having already lost some burgeoning talents over the past year or so.
The Hammers saw both talented prospects Divin Mukasa and Amara Nallo join Manchester City and Liverpool respectively which represented a serious blow to their setup at the London Stadium. Daniel Rigge left also.
After losing one of their greatest academy products in Declan Rice, the Hammers should be hell-bent on continuing that tradition to find the next Rice. But, that ambition may prove difficult if they keep allowing such gifted young products to leave.
Mukasa enjoyed some tremendous development in the academy but upped and left to join the Premier League’s elite along with Nallo.
Now, it seems Akpata could be joining them as he goes on trial with Queens Park Rangers and this is a brave move for the youngster but one which could stand him in good stead for the future.
However, what kind of message are West Ham sending out to their fans as yet another talented product potentially heads towards the exit?
