West Ham United ‘garbage’ as new David Sullivan worry emerges
Alex Crook has described the atmosphere at West Ham United’s London Stadium as “absolutely garbage”.
Previewing the Irons’ home game against Arsenal on Saturday [30 November], the talkSPORT journalist said that he is not convinced Julen Lopetegui’s side have turned a corner despite beating Newcastle 2-0 at St. James’ Park on Monday [25 November].
He stressed the need for the atmosphere at the London Stadium to improve after seeing the place go silent during the Hammers’ 0-0 draw with Everton on 9 November – something that feels should worry David Sullivan.
“The atmosphere needs to change. I did the Everton game and listen it was absolutely garbage”, Crook said on talkSPORT [29 November, 11:07 am].
“No, not blaming the fans, but they need something at home to get behind and they didn’t get anything in that game.
“Honestly, it was so dead in the stadium and that’d worry me if I was David Sullivan because they weren’t even angry, West Ham fans, it was almost apathy.”
West Ham garbage as new David Sullivan worry emerges
The East London outfit hoped Lopetegui would bring an attractive brand of football to the club when they brought him in as the replacement for David Moyes.
However, the Hammers’ playing style this season has not been too dissimilar from what fans previously saw under the Scottish manager.
It is, therefore, understandable that the atmosphere at the London Stadium has not met its usual standards.
However, it only takes one big moment to get the fans bouncing again and one can only hope that one of Lopetegui’s players can produce that against Arsenal this weekend.

It is worth noting that the game on Saturday is the second of the two make-or-break opportunities given to Lopetegui amid persisting pressure on the Spaniard [The Guardian].
The former Sevilla boss came out with flying colours on the first occasion, leading the Irons to a victory in Tyneside, and will now hope to repeat the trick against the Gunners.
In other West Ham news, this Irons fan favourite is being lined up for a January transfer exit.
