West Ham United forward Michail Antonio amazed by David De Gea in Manchester United clash
Michail Antonio was left amazed by Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea’s save against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Antonio joined Match of the Day 2 as a special guest pundit after the fixture and was left stunned by the Spaniard’s save from Kurt Zouma in the game.
The West Ham United forward admitted he couldn’t believe his eyes when De Gea managed to keep out the sublime-headed effort from Zouma, claiming he is “cat-like”.
“I was so close to celebrating,” said Antonio speaking on MOTD 2 (30 September 2022).
“I can’t believe he’s got there, today he was just on fire, that’s one thing I’ll give De Gea, he’s cat-like.”
Bang-average.
It was a bang-average performance on the day from West Ham United and it left little to come away from Old Trafford to be pleased with.
The Hammers put up more of an effort in the second half and arguably did enough to earn a point against the Red Devils if it wasn’t for De Gea’s heroics.
Said Benrahma was a shining light for West Ham and proved that he probably deserves a regular place in David Moyes’ starting XI moving forward.
Brazilian Lucas Paqueta’s absence was all too apparent yet again, however, and forward Gianluca Scamacca seems to have gone down a level since the midfielder’s injury.
Scamacca was pretty poor on Sunday afternoon but he isn’t getting the service required to bang in goals at the moment, this is something Paqueta provides.
A UEFA Conference League clash against FCSB now awaits West Ham before a must-win Premier League matchup against Crystal Palace.
