West Ham United forward Maxwel Cornet struggles to make impact

West Ham summer signing Maxwel Cornet has failed to show David Moyes that he can be a regular first-team starter, as suggested by journalist Paul Brown.

Cornet, who joined in the summer transfer window from Burnley, has made only one Premier League start so far.

The 26-year-old is currently out injured but David Moyes has suggested that he could return shortly.

“It does seem at the moment that he’s being used, and is more likely to be used, in a kind of super-sub role to come on and try and change games or come up with that one moment of magic that swings something in difficult circumstances,” said Brown on Give Me Sport.

“It doesn’t look like he’s shown the manager enough to be a regular starter, so it’s a blow for him that he can’t prove it at the moment.”

Big improvement needed

A host of clubs were keen to sign Cornet in the summer transfer window, but the Hammers managed to get his signature over the dotted lines, after paying around £17.5m

Cornet was brilliant against Chelsea after coming off the bench, but he should be looking to get more starts for the Hammers after returning from a calf injury.

The Hammers added several new players during the summer transfer window, and Moyes will need time to integrate every one of them and extract the best out of them as well.

Moyes has used him in the Europa Conference League where he grabbed a few assists already.

At the moment, it’s too early to say that Moyes sees him as an impact sub as there’s plenty of football left to be played this season.

The Ivory Coast international is a highly talented player who can play in multiple positions. Moyes can use him in various roles once he properly settles down.
