West Ham United: Flynn Downes second part of medical underway

Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes is undergoing the second part of his West Ham United medical on Thursday 7 July, ahead of completing his move to the London Stadium according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Guardian revealed on 6 July that West Ham were “confident” of securing a deal for the 23-year-old midfielder.

It now appears a deal is very close to being completed with Sheth reporting via his personal Twitter Account (7 July) that the deal is “accelerating” and that Downes is undergoing the second part of his medical.

Swansea are believed to be looking for £12million for the midfielder who has previously played for Ipswich and Luton.

Good depth

A move for Downes will provide the Hammers with midfield depth that David Moyes has been clamouring for.

The Hammers midfield pairing of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek can sometimes be overused by Moyes and so it is good to see the Irons bring in a good level of competition for the duo.

West Ham fans should certainly get excited about Downes signing after the success of Jarrod Bowen making the step up from the Championship, where he had excelled for Hull City.

Downes is 23 and still has plenty of time to develop during his time at the London Stadium and could turn into an asset for the Hammers, much like Bowen has done in recent years.

The signing of the Swansea man also indicates that Moyes is utilising his budget well.

The Scot will have to wheel and deal at times this summer and bringing in good quality competition for his midfield duo for under £15million is good business by the Hammers.

West Ham fans will be hoping an attacking addition is the next new signing through the London Stadium front door.
