West Ham United fined by FA for what happened v Southampton
West Ham United have been slapped with a fine by the Football Association after they failed to control their players against Southampton.
Tempers were short and emotions high from an early stage in the game and it was in the 20th minute that things started to boil over between the two sets of players.
The referee noted the incident in his matchbook and went on to report that incident to the FA and the Premier League who have now taken action against the Irons.
“An independent Regulatory Commission has fined West Ham United FC £20,000 for a breach of FA Rule E20.1 that occurred during their Premier League fixture against Southampton FC on Sunday 16 October 2022,” an FA statement read.
“West Ham United FC admitted that it failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 20th minute of the fixture.”
Harsh
There will be all kinds of regulations designed to ensure a supposedly fair fine is handed out for things like this but £20,000 seems like too much.
It wasn’t an incident which threatened the referee or another player in any way and it was quickly diluted down once the initial anger had waivered so perhaps the FA have been overly harsh in their fining of West Ham.

Jurgen Klopp was fined even more than that for his behaviour on the touchline for Liverpool but he had been punished with a red card already.
The more sensible decision there would have been a one-game touchline ban but this is the Premier League and FA we’re talking about, sensible decisions are about as common as a blue moon.
Luckily for West Ham, £20,000 won’t even be a noticeable expenditure on the books come the end of the season with some players earning close to that in just one day.
