West Ham United final Premier League position predicted by supercomputer

West Ham United look set for mid-table mediocrity this season following their defeat to Crystal Palace, with a 15th-placed finish predicted by Opta Analyst.

Graham Potter suffered his first league defeat as West Ham boss with a 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday (18 January), which saw Konstantinos Mavropanos sent off.

The defeat leaves the Irons in 14th with relegation fears still looming, and according to the latest supercomputer predictions [20 January], the Hammers could yet drop further down the table.

Powered by Opta Analyst, the supercomputer has predicted a 15th-placed finish for Potter’s side with a 0.62 per cent chance of relegation.

Just a 0.01 per cent chance is prevalent for the Hammers to achieve European qualification.

West Ham need a rebuild next summer

While the biggest issue in Julen Lopetegui was addressed, there are still many more concerns that need to be ironed out if the Hammers are to progress as a club both on and off the pitch.

Recruitment has been remarkably poor and Tim Steidten could be next out the door [Hammers News], but from a squad point of view, there is a lot of work to be done.

We’ve now entered the third week of the winter transfer window and the Irons are still yet to sign a goalscoring forward, something which has been a necessity for many, many years, while the injury sustained to Jarrod Bowen exposed their lack of depth.

There is only so much magic Potter can implement on the squad before it reaches its limit, and as things stand, that limit is not anywhere near high enough to match the ambitions of the club.

The coming weeks will provide the Irons with a chance to implement some short-term fixes, but the summer approaching will be the big opportunity to get West Ham heading back in the right direction.

In other West Ham news, the Irons want to strike a permanent deal for this Spanish international.
