West Ham United fear Fullkrug is out for ‘prolonged period’ after injury blow

West Ham striker Nicklas Fullkrug could be out for a “prolonged period” after picking up an injury on international duty, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reported on 10 September that the Hammers look to be without their new £27million signing for a while with an Achilles injury sustained while training with the Germany national team.

Julen Lopetegui has brought some big names to the East London club since being hired as manager in May. However, they remain light in attack and GiveMeSport claims the injury sustained by the German forward has brought fear to the side.

Can Danny Ings lead the line for West Ham?

English striker Danny Ings has been a bit-part player in the latter years, but could be given a chance to shine given the seriousness of his teammate’s injury.

While Lopetegui still has the option of playing captain Jarrod Bowen in the striker role, his favourable position would be on the right, meaning Ings could be given a chance to refind the form that earned him big-money moves to the likes of Southampton, and Aston Villa.

Joining West Ham in 2022 for around £15m, the 32-year-old has only scored four goals in 54 appearances, though most of those were off the bench.

Danny Ings could be leaving West Ham United.

Ings has a knack for finding the back of the net, given the opportunities, and has shown on several occasions that he can score, with 71 Premier League goals to his name.

Although Michail Antonio still remains at the London club, his early season performances have not caught the eye, which Ings could fulfil if given the chance.
