Tom Rennie believes it would have been "negligent" of West Ham not to search for a David Moyes replacement ahead of his exit at the end of the season.

The Hammers announced via their official website [6 May] that Moyes would be leaving his post at the London Stadium once his contract runs out at the end of the season.

However, fans were already aware of the club's decision after Fabrizio Romano reported via X that Julen Lopetegui had agreed terms with West Ham as a replacement for the Scot.

Reacting to the situation, talkSPORT broadcaster Rennie took to X on Tuesday (7 May), writing: "What's the big deal with talking to replacements for Moyes? That's how contract work happens, isn't it?

"Would it have been better to sack him with two games remaining? Or to literally do nothing until June? That debate is based on faux outrage. It would have been negligent not to."

David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui in West Ham United update

While Moyes deserves the utmost respect for his achievements at the London Stadium over his four-year stay, Rennie raises a very good point about appointing a new manager.

Without the next name lined up, the Irons could have been left in the dark during the summer transfer window, with no clear direction of where the club was going.

It was essential to secure an appointment, and whether fans are happy with Julen Lopetegui or not, the former Wolves man has Premier League experience after 10 months at Molineux Stadium.

However, Moyes certainly deserved to go out on his own terms, which was partially taken away from him when Romano shared the news on Lopetegui's agreed terms.

The hope will be that the West Ham fanbase can give the Scot his deserved send-off as the side face Luton Town in their last home game of the season on Saturday 11 May.
