West Ham United: Gabby Agbonlahor certain all fans would welcome London Stadium development

Gabby Agbonlahor insists every single West Ham fan would welcome Europa Conference League football next season.

West Ham won the competition last year and are therefore competing in the Europa League this campaign, where they are currently into the last 16.

While dropping back into the Conference League would be considered a downgrade, Agbonlahor insists supporters would still be grateful.

In a debate on talkSPORT [12 March, 4:14pm] regarding which teams want to finish in seventh, Andy Goldstein ran through each club individually.

When asked if West Ham fans would take seventh place, and a likely spot in that competition, Agbonlahor simply said: “100 per cent.”

West Ham still in Europa League contention

Winning the Conference League last year provided supporters – whether they were in attendance for the final or not – memories for a lifetime.

United’s reward was another season of Europa League football, and they are still in the hunt to go all the way in that competition this term.

If that is to happen, they will have to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Freiburg when the sides reconvene at London Stadium this week.

Playing in Europe season after season has to be the aim for United, and that is something they are achieving under marmite manager David Moyes to his credit.

If that means dropping into the Conference League again next season, so be it. As we have seen up close, the quality is very high.

Seventh place should be enough for a European spot this season, but that depends on various other factors falling into place.

For now, though, the Irons must focus on finishing above Manchester United in sixth and wait to see exactly what that means.

There is also of course still a route into the Champions League should they win the Europa League, and that cannot be completely ruled out.

In other West Ham news, Darren Bent said an Irons player had “no chance” after what happened in the draw with Burnley.
