West Ham United fans start anti-Julen Lopetegui petition after latest hire development
West Ham United supporters have started a petition calling for the club not to hire Julen Lopetegui as the replacement for David Moyes.
It looks increasingly likely that the Scot will depart the London Stadium at the end of the season with the Guardian reporting (3 May) that former Spain and Real Madrid boss Lopetegui is close to agreeing a deal to take over from Moyes.
Lopetegui has been out of work since leaving Wolves prior to the start of this season and reports of his imminent appointment have seemingly not sat well with all sections of the fanbase.
A petition on change.org titled “West Ham say no to Lopetegui” explained: “If Milan can do it, so can we. Lopetegui is not good enough, not ambitious enough and is simply not the man to lead West Ham forward. It is the cheap option and shows a lack of care from the board, do not accept this.
“Amorim is the top choice for Steidten and is worth the compensation for example, yet the board refuse to put their hands in their pockets.”
Will West Ham appoint Julen Lopetegui?
As of Sunday (5 May) morning, the petition against Lopetegui had received a little over 900 signatures, with some supporters clearly using their voice before the Hammers make their next appointment.
It is clear that for a lot of fans the main choice is Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to take over from Moyes, but the likelihood of that happening appears slim with Amorim seemingly deciding that the Hammers job is not for him after talks.

Lopetegui has a good CV, which includes spells with Los Blancos and the Spanish national team, as well as impressing with Sevilla. Just because he is out of work does not necessarily make him a “cheap” option.
While all this is going on, current boss Moyes is still going about his job and no decision has actually been announced on his future at the club. Really, the club should be offering clarity on Moyes immediately because clearly he isn’t staying.
In other West Ham news, Lucas Paqueta could be in a transfer battle to depart the club.
