West Ham United fan reveals £435 bill for one pint at London Stadium

One West Ham fan was left with a £435 bill for a single pint of beer at London Stadium during the Hammers’ 2-0 win v Wolves, according to The Sun.

Beer at football stadiums is definitely overpriced, but this is something else. West Ham fan Garry Ollard bought one pint of Amstel at London Stadium, but instead of the usual £6.60 fee, he was charged £66 following a glitch in the payment system.

Ollard was then made to wait and miss the first half of the match while staff tried to refund him his payment. But the 37-year-old Hammers fan revealed that he’s ended up paying £435 overall after the initial fee caused him to enter his overdraft.

As reported by The Sun, the disgruntled fan wrote to the club saying: “I’ve never been more frustrated.

“This error has forced me to go into my overdraft and incur late payment charges.”

Shambles

Both the fan and the club have had an absolute nightmare here. West Ham need to comment on the mishap, but their latest comments suggest they’re trying to distance themselves from the whole situation.

That’s because the Hammers have since claimed that the payment glitch was entirely out of their control as kiosks are run by third-party operator Delaware North – who are also yet to address the situation.

Clearly, the error was in no way an error of the fan, yet he’s been left with hefty bills to pay as a result.

Hopefully, the entire situation is resolved quickly for everyone involved, and the payment glitch is tackled conclusively so no fan suffers a similar error in the future.

It’d also be nice for West Ham to tackle their beer prices. £6.60 alone is far too high for one beverage at a football ground never mind £66.

The Mirror reported West Ham having the highest beer prices among the Premier League, with their prices more than double that of Manchester United (£3.00). Fans are rightfully annoyed and pressure is on the club to provide a better match-going experience for fans.
