West Ham United eyeing up summer moves for quartet of Manchester United players – Ben Jacobs

West Ham United could set their sights on a quartet of out-of-favour Manchester United stars in the summer transfer window, according to Ben Jacobs.

David Moyes’ side were linked with a loan move for Red Devils right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the January transfer window [90min, 16 December], but eventually failed in their pursuit as Erik ten Hag wanted to keep him at Old Trafford.

CBS journalist Jacobs has now predicted to CaughtOffside (18 February) that the Hammers may eye up moves for a further four players who Manchester United are ready to offload at the end of the season.

“Journalist Ben Jacobs has predicted that the Irons could set their sights on a quartet of Reds on their way out; Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial,” they wrote.

“The latter has proven prolific goalscoring ability but his fitness and injury concerns have become a prevailing issue throughout his United career.”

Rice to McTominay?

Moves for Van de Beek and Martial won’t fill West Ham fans with too much joy due to their lack of consistent form at Old Trafford, but Maguire and McTominay should pique their interest.

If the Hammers are to sell Rice in the summer, McTominay could be the ideal replacement. The Scot plays in a similar position to Rice, carries an aerial and physical presence as well being renowned for his leadership skills.

With United potentially wanting to offload him at the end of the season, it shouldn’t cost the Hammers an extortionate fee to lure him to the London Stadium in a deal that would make sense for both parties.

Although the 26-year-old has had his fair share of critics at Old Trafford over the past few years, there is no doubt he is a Premier League quality player – and he would definitely improve Moyes’ team.

Along with Maguire, the West Ham United could do far worse than making approaches for these two out-of-favour Manchester United players.
