West Ham United eye transfer as Eric Dier told he can leave Tottenham this month
West Ham target Eric Dier has been told he can leave Tottenham during the January window, according to ESPN.
The outlet reported via their website on 2 January that the long-time Spurs defender and midfielder will be permitted to depart midseason with his contract set to expire in the summer.
West Ham and his former club Sporting are both said to be interested in a move for the 29-year-old, who should therefore be available for a low-cost move.

Nayef Aguerd is away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco and is again subject to transfer interest from Saudi Arabia, while Thilo Kehrer is expected to join AS Monaco.
Stop gap?
In many ways Dier has ‘David Moyes signing’ written all over him, and would be a far cheaper alternative to the failed run at signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United in the summer.
The Scot, who now seems to be in line to extend his stay at the London Stadium as manager, looks certain to need further reinforcements in the centre of defence despite the signing of Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer.
Kurt Zouma has also been out and Angelo Ogbonna, who started alongside the Greek arrival for the goalless draw with Brighton on Tuesday night, is going to be 36 by the end of the current campaign.

Despite seemingly having been around forever Dier is still of an age to have a few good years left in him as a central defender, so as a low-cost option could have a lot of upside for West Ham.
His standing at Tottenham has fallen under Ange Postecoglou with his only four Premier League appearances this term coming after the Australian was faced with a selection crisis caused by injuries and suspensions.
Despite that it appears the Irons’ London rivals are happy to leave him leave imminently so the door is open to land some immediate reinforcements at the back.
In other West Ham news, the club are looking to cash in on one man who started against Brighton in order to help fund three new arrivals.
