ExWHUEmployee shares thoughts on potential West Ham United player exit

ExWHUEmployee has shared his thoughts on the potential exit of West Ham United defender Craig Dawson due to the arrival of Brazilian Luizao.

The club officially announced the arrival of the Sau Paulo defender on 18 December, stating the defender will join the team from 1 January 2023.

On Twitter, one fan expressed his concerns that Luizao was only signed because Dawson is leaving the club in January, something Ex rebuffed.

“The two don’t necessarily link. This is a signing for the academy,” said ExWHUEmployee in response to the fan.

Now, every fan can probably agree, letting Dawson leave in January without a suitable replacement lined up could prove to be a costly error of judgement.

West Ham

Injury woes.

The Hammers backline are suffering some serious injury woes right now and it’s hard not to look past the club investing in a new centre-back in January.

As Ex highlighted, Luizao is a player for the Irons academy and won’t be thrust into first-team action just yet, meaning he isn’t the rumoured replacement for Dawson.

Nevertheless, with Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd both likely out of the 26 December clash against Arsenal, Dawson may be needed in the Christmas run-in.

To be honest, it’s worth keeping Dawson in the squad all season, even if a replacement is lined up, the more experienced Premier League veterans in the squad the better.

The 32-year-old’s reliability will be needed if the Hammers get embroiled in a relegation scrap, something that isn’t out of the question on current form.

If this disastrous event does occur, then players like Dawson become even more valuable and it may be a risk to get rid of him in January just in case.
