West Ham United explore cut-price deal to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn – ExWHUemployee

West Ham are looking at the possibility of signing Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in this transfer window, according to ExWHUEmployee.

The Chilean international is a proven goalscorer in England’s second tier, the Championship, having netted 22 goals last season for Rovers and nine already this campaign.

His contract at Ewood Park is up at the end of the 2022-23 season which makes any kind of January deal likely to cost far less than it would have in the summer.

West Ham

The Irons have been intensely watching Championship matches this season to scout for future talent and the 23-year-old has emerged very high on their list.

“The club are apparently exploring a cut-price deal for Ben Brereton-Diaz and have also watched a number of championship matches for potential players including Coventry v Bristol City where Bristol City player Alex Scott has caught a number of clubs’ eyes,” ExWHUEmployee said via Patreon.

Go on then

It seems like Brereton Diaz is the talk of every transfer window at the London Stadium but no approach ever appears to materialise and it is getting a bit boring now.

It’s about time that West Ham just launch a bid and see what Rovers have to say, especially as he is nearing the end of his contract at Ewood Park and they would want some cash for him.

West Ham

The stumbling block the Irons might come across is that promotion to the Premier League is worth far more than whatever transfer fee they could get for Brereton Diaz and they also know that they aren’t going up without him.

This is where Blackburn, with Jon Dahl Tomasson in charge, could simply refuse any offer and force West Ham to join a host of clubs in trying to sign him for free in the summer.

But if Blackburn go up, this is the last chance West Ham have to sign him and they can’t afford not to try at all.
