West Ham United exit for Issa Diop on rocks – Dharmesh Sheth

Issa Diop may have to wait to leave West Ham United this summer as Fulham have been unable to match our asking price, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Irons are trying to hold out for £20million before they sell the French defender but the latest offer from our cross-London rivals only tallies £17million [The Athletic].

As a result, no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs although negotiations are still very much ongoing at this moment in time and a deal could still come to fruition during this transfer window.

“Gap in valuation between what Fulham prepared to pay and what West Ham United want for Issa Diop,” Sheth said via his personal Twitter account. “West Ham valuation thought to be £20m. Talks continue.”

L’Equipe had reported on 28 June that Lyon were close to finalising a deal to sign the French defender but Fulham’s sudden interest and bid submissions have seen West Ham raise their asking price which the Ligue 1 side are yet to match.

Let him go

Even without the signing of Nayef Aguerd from Stade Rennes this summer, Diop was probably our fourth best central defender if everybody was fit but he’s fallen even further down the pecking order now.

Aguerd, Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma are going to be the main three at the heart of David Moyes’ team with Angelo Ogbonna around to occasionally step in if suspensions, injuries or tiredness play their part.

West Ham

When you consider that Diop is only a fifth-choice now at the London Stadium, we perhaps shouldn’t be fretting over the odd million quid here and there.

We could be getting £17million for someone who is only really a fringe player for us which is a fantastic amount of money, even if it isn’t quite as much as we paid for him.

But you can’t get a profit for every signing you make and we have to remember that he has played for us a lot since his arrival which goes some way to paying back that hefty initial fee.
