Stan Collymore predicts result of ‘iffy’ West Ham United v Everton in Premier League

Stan Collymore has described the recent form of West Ham as “iffy”, but has backed the Irons to pick up a 2-1 victory against Everton this weekend.

United were thumped 4-1 by Aston Villa in their most recent Premier League match and followed that up with a 2-1 Europa League loss at Olympiacos on Thursday (26 October).

David Moyes’ side have lost four of their last nine matches in all competitions, but Collymore expects them to get their season back on track at the London Stadium on Sunday (29 October).

“They got really done against Villa,” he told talkSPORT [27 October, 14:43]. “The Olympiacos game they made changes for with the hope of bringing fresh players back who didn’t play and that can do the job [against Everton].

“I think West Ham are going through an iffy patch of form and they’ll prioritise this game. I think it’ll be quite close, but I’m going West Ham to win it 2-1.”

Have to win

West Ham’s form has not been great in recent weeks, and a midweek trip to Greece certainly will not help – even if Moyes did make seven changes against Olympiacos.

But Everton have been pretty poor this season, having won just two of their nine games and lost to the likes of Fulham, Wolves and Luton Town.

United are seven points better off than the Toffees and quite simply have to win home matches such as these if they are serious about challenging for a top-six finish.

Moyes’ men have won four of their past six home league games at the London Stadium, with Manchester City the only side to beat them there since the start of May.

Three more points this weekend would ensure a difficult week or so ends on a much brighter note. Defeat, though, and questions will inevitably be asked of Moyes’ future.

In other West Ham news, the takeover picture at the London Stadium became clearer with an update from Adam Crafton on Friday (27 October).
