West Ham United enquire about 22-year-old Burnley midfielder Dwight McNeil

West Ham United have approached Burnley with an enquiry about forward Dwight McNeil, along with a host of Premier League clubs, as revealed by 90min.

90min claim (16 June) that the Hammers, along with Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham, Brentford and Fulham have all “asked about” the 22-year-old attacker, who can play on both wings.

McNeil failed to score and registered just one Premier League assist in what was a disappointing 2021/22 campaign as Burnely were relegated to the Championship.

Risky

This is a risky signing for David Moyes if he does choose to pursue a move for the winger.

McNeil has shown moments of quality during his time at Turf Moor, but one assist in an entire season is pretty grim reading for any potential suitor.

His contract is heading into its final two years, although Burnley do hold an option for an extra year which could still see the Clarets command a reasonable fee for the 22-year-old, who’s played 134 times in the Burnley for the Lancashire outfit.

The Hammers cannot pay over the odds for a player that has been relatively ineffectual this season, even if it was in a poor Burnley side.

West Ham

It wouldn’t be a shock to see the winger leave the Lancashire side this summer with Vincent Kompany taking the reigns at Turf Moor, he may well want to give Burnley’s squad a refresh.

With McNeil being one of the club’s biggest assets a move is likely.

However, Moyes should stay well clear of any approach for the 22-year-old.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have been offered the chance to sign this £12.8million goal machine after his club was relegated.
