West Ham United make serious effort to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi in January

West Ham have made a serious effort in recent weeks to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi in January, according to a report from Calciomercato.

The Hammers are joined by Tottenham and Marseille in the race to sign the Atalanta attacking midfielder who is tired of waiting for offers from clubs and desperately seeks new challenges.

He has a contract at Atalanta until 2025, and the Hammers are weighing up their options before making an offer to the Serie A club. French journalist Ignazio Genuardi reported on 8 December that it would require a fee of around £17.3 million to sign the Ukraine international.

Spurs would only offer a loan deal, something Atalanta are not keen on. Likewise, Marseille face a similar problem, which means the Hammers may have an upper hand in the race.

Unlikely

It looks highly unlikely that the Hammers can lure him to the London Stadium in the January window.

David Moyes probably won’t add any new players in January unless there’s an injury crisis. The Hammers spent over £150m in the summer transfer window and Moyes hasn’t been able to get the best out of them.

It is highly unlikely that the Hammers board will sanction funds for Moyes in January unless the result improves.

Moreover, Moyes himself is facing an uncertain future at the club. He has done an incredible job since taking charge but the results have been very poor this season.

With the squad they have, they shouldn’t be lying close to the relegation zone. The midfield is one area that needs bolstering but Malinovskyi doesn’t seem to be the right-profile of player the club should sign.

West Ham should be looking to build a team with young talents, especially if Declan Rice leaves the club. The midfielder hasn’t been in the best of form this season as well, and it makes no sense to move for him.
