West Ham United duo Jarrod Bowen and Maxwel Cornet doubts for Anderlecht tie

West Ham United will have to wait to find out whether Jarrod Bowen and Maxwel Cornet can play against Anderlecht, according to Football London.

Both players suffered injuries against Wolves on Saturday with Cornet forced off in the first half while Bowen played on after having attention to a dislocated finger.

The England international should be fine to play in Belgium with his fingers taped up, as they were against Wolves when the game resumed, but Cornet’s fitness is much more up in the air.

The Ivorian required scans on his injury on Monday but the club have not yet revealed any results of those which may well leave David Moyes in the dark until gameday.

He could join Nayef Aguerd and Ben Johnson on the injury list while Harrison Ashby is a doubt having played two games in three days for the Under-21s side.

Qualification

Moyes will be extremely keen to take all three points back to England on Thursday because that would almost certainly see West Ham through to the knockout rounds of the competition.

The Irons already have two wins from two matches and a third in a row would then allow for mass rotation and resting of star talents such as Bowen and Declan Rice for big Premier League encounters.

The club spent £170million on bulking up their squad over the summer so they now have to use it as much as possible and give some of the lesser-used players their moment in the sun.

Anderlecht away might not be the game to do that in what might be the toughest game of the group but once qualification and top spot are secured, Rice, Bowen and other key players should not feature in the Conference League again until the knockouts begin in February 2023.
