West Ham United: Dharmesh Sheth shares update on David Moyes replacement

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has mooted a different type of manager to replace David Moyes if he leaves West Ham.

Sheth told Give Me Sport [1 April] that the Hammers may look to change the way things work behind the scenes with Tim Steidten at the helm.

He claims Moyes prefers an old-school approach while the club may move to a more European structure with a head coach and not a manager.

Sheth said: “If David Moyes is to go, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Tim Steidten scoured the European market and maybe brought in a manager that is very well versed in how a European football team is run with a sporting director and a structure, as opposed to the almost old school manager that David Moyes is, who wants a little bit more control on all recruitment matters at the football club, which in fairness, he has had in his second stint at West Ham United.

“But because West Ham have decided to move towards this more European structure, I think it will be quite a big decision they will have to make, and Tim Steidten will probably be at the centre of that.”

West Ham need to move on from David Moyes

Bringing in a European-style manager like those favoured by Steidten makes sense as it aligns with the club’s desire to modernise and adopt a more structured approach to football operations, similar to many successful European clubs.

Such a manager would likely bring a more progressive style of play that emphasises possession, fluid passing and attacking football, which is more appealing to fans and aligns with modern football trends.

Moreover, under Moyes, West Ham’s style of play has often been criticised for its lack of aesthetic appeal, relying more on individual brilliance than cohesive team tactics.

A change in leadership could inject new energy and ideas into the team, fostering a more attractive and effective playing style.

Additionally, the potential departure of Moyes presents an opportune moment for the club to transition to a new era and strive for further success in both domestic and European competitions and take them in the right direction.
