Arsenal in line for multi-million payment after West Ham United development
Arsenal are in line for a £2million payment from Fulham after Marco Silva’s men defeated West Ham at the weekend, according to The Mirror.
While Fulham have their sights set higher, their win at London Stadium on Sunday (14 April) ensures they are officially safe from relegation.
As a result of confirming their Premier League safety for another year, the report on The Mirror’s online edition [16 April] claims they must make the multi-million payment to Arsenal.
That is due to a clause written in Bern Leno’s contract when he swapped London clubs in August 2022
The initial fee was just £3m, but that could climb to £8m – and is fast on its way to doing so – should various add-ons be triggered.
West Ham well set in goalkeeping department
This appears to be a great piece of business from Fulham, with Leno keeping a clean sheet for his side at London Stadium.
Leno made four saves in total as the Cottagers claimed all three points through a couple of Andreas Pereira strikes.
Whether or not the Brazilian should have even been on the field at full-time, though, is another matter.
The Leno deal is exactly the type of one West Ham should look to pull off more often – snapping up quality players on the cheap.
If that figure rises and rises, it will ultimately be down to the fact that said player has proved to be a key man.
As it is, West Ham have two very capable goalkeepers in Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski – not many teams can boast a better back-up.
After this disappointing setback against Fulham, fingers crossed for a big response when the Irons welcome Bayer Leverkusen in a huge European clash.
