West Ham United defender Issa Diop attracts interest from Lazio

Exiled West Ham defender Issa Diop is attracting interest from Serie A side Lazio according to Italian website Corriere dello Sport.

It was revealed on Sunday [29 May] by the Italian website that the West Ham centre-half is of interest to the side from Rome, who are in need of a rebuild this summer.

The 25-year-old Frenchmen is out of contract next summer and has fallen out of contention at West Ham.

With David Moyes looking to rejuvenate his squad this summer, a move away for the defender could be a possibility.

Sell this summer

The Hammers should certainly be looking to offload the defender this summer and there should be plenty of interest in the defender.

Diop is only 25 and could well be a success elsewhere, but it just hasn’t quite worked out with the Hammers in recent years.

With Moyes looking to generate funds to improve his squad, he could still get a reasonable fee for Diop if he was to sell him this summer.

Considering his form and lack of game time this season, it is unlikely that he will have his contract renewed or be in Moyes’ plans going forward.

West Ham

If West Ham don’t move Diop on then they face having an unhappy player taking up space in their squad and not making an impact on the pitch.

Moyes has already cleared out the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko and Ryan Fredericks with their contracts coming to an end.

It is now time for Moyes to move on players who are still under contract but not in his plans.

Who moves out of the club this summer will be as important as who comes through the door at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are in advanced talks to seal their first major new signing of the summer transfer window.
