West Ham United defender Emerson nowhere to be seen as injury mystery emerges

West Ham players have been back in training ahead of their friendly against Cambridge United on Tuesday night [6 December] but Emerson was nowhere to be seen, according to Football.London.

The Italian full-back was not spotted in either the pictures or video from Monday’s training session [5 December] and his absence remains a mystery at the moment.

The 28-year-old did not link up with Italy’s squad for their friendlies last month against Austria and Albania as well, which leaves everyone in the dark about what could be the reason for his absence.

It could well happen that Emerson hasn’t been pictured, but that would have been really strange.

Emerson broke his nose prior to the World Cup break during the Carabao Cup defeat to Blackburn Rovers, so there is a possibility that he hasn’t recovered fully yet.

Since joining from Chelsea in the summer, Emerson has made three starts in the league, and a further four appearances have come from the bench.

David Moyes is also missing Kurt Zouma for the upcoming friendly game. The Frenchman had undergone knee surgery last month, and it’s unclear when he can return.

Zouma, who started in 14 of West Ham’s 15 Premier League games this term, was spotted recently arriving at Rush Green without any crutches. It could mean that he won’t be out for too long.

Nayef Aguerd is currently with the Morocco national team, and he is therefore not available.

The biggest boost for West Ham probably is the return of Maxwel Cornet. The summer signing has barely featured for the Hammers, but he could play a big role in the second half of the campaign if he remains fit.
