West Ham United defender Craig Dawson not selected v Boreham Wood
West Ham defender Craig Dawson has not been selected for the pre-season friendly game against Boreham Wood on Tuesday (12 July).
ExWHUemployee wrote on Patreon (12 July) that Dawson was training yesterday so something “minor” must have happened that has ruled him out of the game.
The reliable Hammers source also added that at the start of the window they had heard that Dawson was “considering” moving up North for family reasons, but they’ve not heard anything of late about any clubs making a move for him.

No way
The 32-year-old was outstanding last season (2021-22) for the club, and the club must keep him.
Unless there’s a very good offer on the table, West Ham should not allow him to leave. In this case, it looked like he wanted to move on due to personal reasons.
Last season Dawson made 44 appearances in all competitions. He managed four goals as well.

Like old wine, Dawson is getting better with age. When both Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna got injured, Dawson filled their void and did a tremendous job.
This season, he is unlikely to play over 30-odd games in the league, unless there’s any big injury.
Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd are likely to be David Moyes’s first-choice pairing. Ogbonna will return as well, but with Issa Diop being linked with a move away from the club, Dawson can still expect to play a big part in the coming season.
